Day 17: opera6.ini

June 5, 2005

Boy did my life just get a little easier. I had planned a day on the opera6.ini file, which is a veritable treasure-trove of hidden features that you don’t need to get into but might want to. There are a lot of hidden power features in there.

“Like what?” you ask. Well, I was going to do a lot of investigative journalism, track down Usenet postings, references on my.opera.com forums and mailing lists, and put it all together in one nice little package for you.

But I’m not going to do that.

No, I’m not being turned by the dark side of the Force, and I haven’t given up on the series (although life and allergies has made it much slower going than expected).

I’m not going to do all that because Opera ASA just published this: Opera6.ini Settings Explained

So why reinvent the wheel, when you can just link to it?

But I will throw in a little tip for you Mac users out there: don’t look for an opera6.ini on your system. You won’t find one. The comparable file on Mac OS X is ~/Library/Preferences/Opera Preferences/Opera 8 Preferences.
