MacSlash reports:
Infinite Loop did a survey of Vista reviews and found that 6 of 8 mention Mac OS X in some way. In most cases, the windows reviewers have a clear case of Mac envy. My favorite review of the bunch comes from the Register, who can hardly be called Apple fans:So, there’s our first look at Vista. It does benefit from a lot of good ideas, many of them Apple’s, of course, but good nevertheless. It simply doesn’t work very well, unfortunately. There are serious problems with execution; it’s not polished; it’s not ready. It should not be on the market, and certainly not for the outrageous prices being charged.
I wonder how long until we see a Get A Mac ad where the PC is dressed like a Mac, but he’ll have put his “hoodie” on over his suit or something to make him look even more Gatesian.
The most shocking thing about The Register’s review of Vista is that the $380 version of Vista sells for $780 in Ireland, and they had to buy their own copy because Microsoft wouldn’t provide them with a review copy. Gates tried to slough this off on not being aware of exchange rates. Does anyone buy accept that answer? As if Microsoft isn’t intimately aware of anything having to do with making a buck?
Speaking of which, that gives me another idea for a Get a Mac ad: Mac talks about what he can do, and then Vista says “Oh, I can do that… oh wait, but I’ll have to pay for it” and then explain that he only paid for some features, and others can be unlocked if he wants to upgrade later.
If Apple is smart they’ll get a lot of mileage out of Vista. If John Hogdman wasn’t so good I’d suggest replacing him with another actor and saying that he just had to give up the old one and bought a new PC, which is how most people will get Vista. Vista will come into your home not with a bang, but with a whisper. Actually probably more like a long dreadful moan.
