Let me preface this by saying that I am very excited that there will be a real Aqua version of OpenOffice.org for Mac OS X.
Very happy, bravo Sun, etc.
That said… I did get a good laugh out of seeing this at the home page for the project, which announced itself as “The best office suite for your Mac” with a few provisos, a few quid-pro-quos, such as (click for larger image in new window):
- WARNING: THIS SOFTWARE MAY CRASH AND MAY DESTROY YOUR DATA DO NOT USE THIS SOFTWARE FOR REAL WORK IN A PRODUCTION ENVIRONMENT.
- It doesn’t print
- Copy and paste don’t work “fully”
- It will crash after you quit it
Do not taunt Happy Fun Ball.
I could go on, but I won’t.
With all due respect, OpenOffice.org for Mac may someday be the best office suite for Mac, but that day ain’t today.
(Yes yes, I know it says that it’s a Development Preview and all that, but let’s look at what the big print giveth and the little print taketh away, shall we?)
