Ok, well I’m on board.
.Mac really, really sucks.
I had heard people complain about it, but the unrelenting pressure of all these apps which had .Mac integratation finally got to me. When I found a project I thought might really benefit from some of it, I bought .Mac.
It really, really sucks.
First it took about 2 weeks and a trip to the Genius Bar before I could even get it to work. For some reason my computer refused to connect to .Mac. But finally we got it to work.
Funniest part of the whole thing:
Me: “I can’t get .Mac to work”
Genius: “Well it goes down a lot”
Me: “Ah, rich. Thanks so much. You really ought to talk to some of the rest of the employees here, because they push .Mac like a fresh shipment that just hit .”
Ok, so I didn’t say the last part, but his very first response to “I’m having .Mac problems” was “Yeah it’s pretty unreliable.”
AND YET STILL I wanted to believe so badly.
I got it to work. I synced any and everything that would sync.
I had been meaning to do some Spring Cleaning anyway, so I did a nice fresh install of OS X on my MacBook, put in my .Mac information when I finished installing (they even push .Mac during the installation of OS X).
So what did I get for my $99?

Keychain Error There was a problem saving to your keychain. Please try again or use Keychain Access to verify your keychain. Error -2147415734
Leaving aside the patentedly stupid error number, I fired up Keychain Access, fixed what it said was a problem, verified that all was well, and went back to .Mac.
Same error.
Oh yeah.
It appears that there’s a problem with my keychain entry which is now synced in .Mac and whenever I get the keychain to the point that it will work, it syncs the bad data from .Mac.
Superific, Apple. You’ve finally managed to create something I both hate and regret buying.
Can I have my money back please?
