Roxio’s Version of Customer Service

December 13, 2007

Since Roxio released Toast 8 in January of this year, I have received at least 45 emails about it.

(I ascertained this by searching for emails from Roxio with the phrase “Toast 8” in the Subject: line in GMail. Note that I am not including the duplicate emails that they send me (they send me two copies of almost all of their emails to two separate addresses. I unsubscribed, but they are using both email addresses again).

That averages out to about one email per week trying to get me to buy Toast 8.

I presume they are sending me all of these messages because they know that I am using Toast 7.

Toast 7 was not compatible with Leopard for about 5 weeks. They did kindly offer to let me upgrade to Toast 8 for only $60 which was compatible with Leopard.

It would be totally cynical of you to think that they waited 5 weeks to release an update to Toast 7 in the hope of trying to get people to upgrade to Toast 8. I can’t believe you’d even think such a thing.

They released a Leopard compatible version of Toast 7 on December 5th.

How do I know that? Oh, because they emailed me to tell me.

BWHAHAHAHAHA!

No, no (wipes tear from eye) I’m kidding. Of course they didn’t email me to tell me. I had to find out about it by accident on another forum.

I mean, how could Roxio possibly know that I’d want to hear about a Leopard compatible version of Toast? All did was registered their software (along with my email address) on their website, what was I thinking when I imagined that they would use it for something other than to try and sell me something else.

Why would they bother telling me about a crucial upgrade to a product I already own when they could just as easily try to separate me from another $60?

Then, when I tried to download the update from Roxio’s site, they tried to sell me Toast 8 again.

Hey Roxio, look out your window. I’m waving at you. Please note that in order to conserve energy I’m only using one finger. You can purchase an upgrade to the other 4 for only $60. Each. This is a limited time offer, so act fast.
