The Hulk (is BAD)

This is a bad movie. This is a really bad movie. This movie is awful. Decorum prevents me from using any of the words that I would choose to talk about how bad this movie really is. It's awful. Amazingly bad.
What's amazing is that I sat there thinking to myself "This is a really bad movie" and then it got worse. And worse. And worse.
The writing is bad.
The acting is bad.
The special effects are not bad, but they don't nearly come close to making up for the atrocity which is the rest of this movie.
I saw it with 6 other adults and 2 youth, and we all thought it was awful. Several people said it was the worst movie they had ever seen. My comment was "The only good that can come out of this is if we stop other people from seeing it.
I can't remember the last time I saw a movie that was meant to be good that was so bad. You know how some movies are so bad they end up being funny? Yeah, this isn't even one of those. It's just a really, really bad movie.

I agree with you a 100%

I haven't seen it yet, but thanx for the heads up..!

Thanks, I had a feeling. The CG Hulk looks like an inflated Stretch Armstrong to me anyway.
Checking out the game at the store was fun though. Nothing like throwing rabid dogs into other dogs!

I loved this movie. I adore the characters, and find the romance between Bruce and Betty absolutely captivating, tragic, and oddly satisfying. David Banner (Bruce's father) is ingeniously portrayed. I thoroughly enjoy the story and love the music. 10/10 Stars.

First off, the movie is not based on the nineteen-
seventies televison show. It's based on the comic.
With that said, this is a movie for pure special effects, and entertainment. This is not an oscar
contender. Watch it with an open mind you might just be suprised. I saw the movie twice and loved every bit of it. I like the fresh twist Ang Lee took on the origins of the Hulk. See it for yourself, don't let some negitive reviews deture you from this movie.

Most people that I've talked to seem to think that this movie is based on the TV show, which as you said it is not. Most were butchering it because they thought (according to the 70's TV show, where the hulk wasn't that strong) that Hulk wouldn't be able to throw tanks or leap accross the grand canyon. Other than all of that, the CG effects were awesome, the story was
great (though it does get just a little too sci-fi right around the end), and if you read the Hulk comics you'll know that Bruce Banner is and always has been an emotionally distant man which was very well acted in this movie. Its no X2, but it is still a great movie.

This is a bad ass movie! This is a really bad ass movie! This movie is totally sweet! Decorum prevents me from using any of the words that I would choose to talk about how fabulous this movie really is. It's sweet! Amazingly bad ass!
What's amazing is that I sat there thinking to myself "This is a really wonderful movie" and then it got better! And better. And better.
The writing is brilliant.
The acting is even better.
The special effects are wonderful, but they don't nearly come close to the wonderful story and comic book spirit which is the rest of this movie.
I saw it with 3 other people 1 adult and 2 youth, and we all thought it was well worth waiting for. Several people said it was the best movie they had ever seen. My comment was "That possibly the best that can come out of this is if we encourage as many other people as we can to see it".
I can't remember the last time I saw a movie that was meant to be good and nailed it the first time. You know how some movies are so good that you can't wait for the sequel? Yeah, this is one of those. It's just a really, really bad ass kickin movie!

this movie is totally wrong. it is sadistic, cruel and terribly wrong. do not go see it, do not pass go and avoid this monstronsity at all costs. at least, plan 9 from outer space was entertaining.

The most difficult portion of the movie is the first thirty minutes. The filmmakers are building suspense, for the Hulk's appearance, but they go to unnecessary lengths to explain the science that will turn a mild-mannered scientist into a green-skinned force of nature. Interesting, contemporary, and the Hulk is truly frightening -- strength fueled by rage, and property damage on a scale that makes you understand the military's attempts to capture and destroy him.
Betty and Bruce's romance is fresh for super-hero films. Rather than wondering if Mary Jane or Lois Lane likes him, we see the Betty/Bruce relationship as the spark is dying. The emergence of the Hulk drives them further apart, atypical of super-hero films where the acquisition of power makes the hero more attractive.
Lots of fun.

Not brilliant, no, but entertaining. The entire plot is unfeasable - even the parts that should be realistic aren't, so it lets down the rest of the film - but if we wanted reality we'd look at what was happening around us. It has its amusing points though - 5/10

God this movie sucked...it was a packed theater with no seats left when i got in there. Me and my 3 freinds managed to find seats though. We sat there the first hour and a half laughing at the retarded split screen feauture. One side of the screen would have bruce walking and then the other with the chick walking and when they met up the screen would come into one.....STUPID..MEANINGLESS..this foo took a hour and a HALF...and hour and a HALF to turn into the hulk, before that was meaningless boring BLoo BLAH..man was it garbage..just..dont go see it..

I am watching Hulk as I write these comments. For those that didn't like it, well that's to bad. It may not have been an oscar winning movie, but it was entertaining and well done. The effects were great and the Hulk looked as good as any CG character could be. It's as entertaining as any of the other comic book hero movies out there. If you were going into the movie expecting a movie as good as maybe the Lord of the Rings Trilogy well, you went in with the wrong expectations.
For those who haven't seen it, do see it! It was well worth the price of admission. I enjoyed it enough I went out and bought the DVD.

Well, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but 5 months later, our friends and I (who saw this together) are still talking about how amazingly bad it was.
I didn't find anything entertaining about it. The story dragged along. The CG effects were pretty good, the transitions from the Hulk to Bruce Banner and back again was very well done.

I saw this movie twice, in the theatres and VHS. The first time I saw it it was bad, and I went with one youth and one adult. We all thought it was bad. The second time a got used to it, it seemed better but still with a hint of badness.
Bad:
1. Hulk is too god-like
2. Where the heck does he get all that energy from? I mean if it was fantasy it'll work out, but it's more sci-fi than that.
3. Beginning quite boring
4. His father is too god-like
Good:
1. Animation is good
2. Battle scenes good
If ya want to watch a meaningful movie, THOU SHALL NOT WATCH THIS MOVIE. However, if you just want to watch an action movie, fast-forward like about half the length of the movie and play.

Do not believe anyone who says this movie is good. It is so bad. It start out really weird and bad and then, by the end, its just pychotic. Ang Lee progressively went on crack throughout this movie. I've seen neither the tv show, nor comic, so any comparing did not go on and it still doesn't effect my answer. This movie is BAD. Enough said!

In my own personal opinion and observation, those he didn't like this movie doesn't know $hit about anything what the Hulk really is.
People who say the movie suX0rs are those people who only know the Hulk from the old TV series. You people should know that that version of the Hulk was freakin' gay, or to put it simply, a castrated Hulk due to effects technology limitations.
Oh, and don't complain about the Hulk being too god-like, because if you read the comics, the "REAL" Hulk could duke it out with titans such as Thanos, the Champion(Infinity Gauntlet), Juggernaut(villain from X-men.)
[ed: I know all about what the Hulk is supposed to be, and I still thought this was a bad, bad movie. I thought the acting was bad, the writing was bad, and the screenplay was bad.]

The comment above that the movie is "based on the comic book" is actually not true. If you ever read the book, which most people who produce movies from these super characters do NOT, Banner was a scientist working on a project to create a "gamma bomb". Think Einstein/Oppenheimer. "Nano technology" and a father experimenting on himself thus producing the Hulk in his offspring, no, didnt happen. Betty as a research assistant, no , didnt happen. The television show from the 70s also got it wrong. Sorry to rant, folks, but if youre gonna produce a movie from an established character like the Hulk (over 40 years in publication) do it RIGHT. And to those who say, "Its only a movie", you should show some pride and respect and do it right, or dont do it at all.

As a lifelong fan of the incredible hulk, I have collected every issue of the comic book and I just bought the tv show on dvd. I have to say, this movie was the strangest chapter in my Incredible Hulk collecting experiences. I drove around the State of Missouri this summer, going to different movie theatres and meeting fans. I met all sorts of fun people.
It's always fun to bring that movie up at comic book shows with true incredible hulk fans because they pull me aside and say 'what the hell was going on with that film?" I always respond by saying 'Perhaps it was made by someone who lost at Dungeons and Dragons too many times and is taking it out on the world." I don't think it matters if the film is good or not; I still had fun seeing it.

The CG was good in parts. Some of the battle sequences were OK, i liked the bit with tanks; but that was it for the entire movie.
Apart from that this movie is complete shit. Acting was awfull, writing was bad. I really couldn't wait for this film to end. Complete crap.
Starts off bad, and gets progressively worse. I think the main problem with this film was all the hype that surounded it, before it came out the effects were meant to be groundbreaking and everyone would appreciate the 'stunning effects with all the romance'. Then when it came out all the critics said it was bad. I thought it couldn't be as bad as they said and they just didn't like comic book characters... i was wrong, so very wrong. this film is just shit, no other word for it. I think its fair to say it is the worst film i have ever seen (taking into account, the expectations i had for it).
better than saying dont go and see this film, go and see this film and see just how bad it really is.

I went in expecting to see something a little closer to the comicbooks but with some twist of the 70's TV show for the general populace. What I expected and what I got were close, but absolutely nothing in regards to either version's positive aspects.
To begin I'd like to point out that I understand why the exclusion of Bruce's working on a Gamma Bomb was deleted now that the Cold War is over and we supposibly do not any longer develope new weapons of mass destruction (riiiiiight). I was sort of expecting some Genetics or mental/emotional experimentation like in the TV show from the 70's since it fit more into today's realm of research that an out of date research project such as bomb creation that was the baseline for most comic characters in the sixties such as Captain Atom, Solar: Man of the Atom, Dr. Manhattan from the Watchmen, and all those other radiation based characters such as the Fantastic 4 and Spider-Man. But having Bruce's father dabbling in genetics and then experimenting on his own child -- C'mon.... Why???
This part of the movie for me was worthless and totally detracts from the scientist that Bruce is and the original thrust of the Hulk, FF, Spidey, and other non-mutant character's in the Marvel Universe -- the powers were manifications of radioactive sources that affected people in ways that were bizarre and unpredictable while also playing on the fear's of the reader at that period of time on "normal" humanbeings. It is movies like this that make me wonder how awful of an origin Hollywoood will pull out of their director's asses to do a re-write of the FF's origin or Captain America's origin -- I can see it now -- Captain America was first sent out to fight during WWII but was frozen solid until the year 2000 where he discovers that in the face of idealism he vows to become a card holding supporter of the Democrats and their rampant PC-police who no longer feels it is in the best interest of his country to go to war with Terrorists based on cultural differenceses and the inability to think on his own since having one's own opinion is the "out" thing these days for the average joe? I sure hope not.
If I have anything to say about this movie it is that I felt the FX were excellent and that the Hulk was portrayed just great -- but as for the rest of the movie -- if you want a better attempt to satisfy the masses, go find a copy of Highlander II or that Captain America movie released in the 80s -- at least there somebody attempted to stick to an original origin and stay true to a character's history of 40+ years.
