Feed Needs, fini

I asked for your feedback about the feeds, and the response was clear:

People like full text.

Well, I'm all for giving people what they want. Just a few quick notes.

If you want full text of all the posts, be sure to subscribe to the Atom feeds. The full text is always included in them.

The RSS 1.0 and RSS 2.0 may not show the full-text, because they do not show the "extended" part of the post (i.e. any post that says "Continue reading...")

Unfortunately RSS 1 and 2 don't indicate if there is more text than what is included in the feed. So either a) I have to give some indication in the first part of the post that there is more, or b) you have to deduce it.

I might see if I can fix this for RSS 1 and 2, but since there is a solution available (use Atom) I probably won't even look at it until I've solved the other existing issues.

Feed Needs

Are you reading these posts in an RSS application?

If so, drop me an email at tim @ [this domain name ] or use the http://tntluoma.com/contact/ form.

I just realized that MT3 puts full text of posts in the feeds. This has plusses and minuses, and I'd like to know how folks feel about it.

Previously I was just posting excerpts. The "full text feeds" often lack links to URLs and other stuff that might be useful (i.e. like being able to tell when something is in a BLOCKQUOTE rather than being my own words).

But if people like the full text feeds, I'll keep them.

You have until the weekend to cast your vote.

By the way, I haven't figured out a way to be notified when someone posts a comment, so I have to manually look for them and approve them. Don't be offended if this takes awhile, I probably just forgot to check. If you use TypeKey (www.typekey.com) your comments will be instantly posted and I do get a copy of them (in case any lousy spammers sign up to TypeKey and try to post comments).

By the way, if you have no idea what I'm talking about (Hi mom!) feel free to ignore this entirely :-)

YARD

Yet another redesign. Hopefully this one will last longer. Upgraded to MT3. If you don't have TypeKey, you can post a comment, but it will go to me for approval.

Some of the other pages are not yet styled with the update. For example, if you look at the Daily Dose of Ethan pages, you will see the old layout. What can I say, it takes a lot longer to do this with just a dialup account.

Obviously there is still some work to be done on the formatting, etc. But I wanted to get it out there so I could start seeing it live.

Comments closed

Ok, I've dealt with the last comment spam.

I'm upgrading to MovableType 3. I intend to use a strict comment policy. If you don't have a TypeKey account already, you ought to get one.

And I really hope that every last spammer out there finds themselves a respectable job so they can stop bothering people and wasting our time.

Redesign

Ok, so nobody except my brother mentioned the site redesign.

Is anyone reading this?

I mean, I know the Crazy Insane Cat People are reading this, because every few months I'll get some obsenity-laden email telling me what they think of me for posting that dogs are better than cats.

Anyway, the redesign took place in two parts:

TnTLuoma.com is undergoing a redesign.

This came about for a few reasons, including:

Mostly Working Now

Well after a long night and some time today rebuilding, I think most of the site is now working. Please let me know the URL (Address) of any problems, and what browser you are using (Opera 7, Mozilla, or Internet Explorer 6 should work.)

Re-design in progress

Folks, I made an ill-conceived choice to redesign both the CSS and some of the templates that I use on the same night behind a slow modem connection.

A lot of stuff is broken / doesn't look right. My apologies. I've been working on it, but it's time to sleep now.

A message for KW

Someone named "KW" sent me an email message, but did not include their email address.

They asked about where to find the phrase "pride goeth before the fall"... the actual quote is Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall. and can be found in King James translation of Proverbs 16:18.

KW - I'd like to offer a private response to some of what you wrote, so if you read this, please send me your email address so I can contact you directly.

Sermon: Willingness

New sermon posted: Willingness which talks about what we can accomplish if we work together.

[p.s.: I have received reports that the comment function isn't working. Will check into it when I get a moment.]

redesign, well eventually

The site redesign is on hold... basically because it was taking too much of what little free time I have on any given day.... and hey, it works like it is, right? So I'm leaving it for now.

DDOE BYOC

The Daily Dose of Ethan (DDOE) now features a daily "Bring Your Own Caption".

If you have a caption to submit, just fill in a few blanks and click SUBMIT.

Easy as pie.

Thanks to Bill Creswell

Bill Creswell tracked down the problems that Internet Explorer was having, and through the use of Microsoft Internet Conditional Comments I was able to fix the problem without mucking up too much else.

Thanks Bill and all those on CSS-Discuss who worked to solve the problem.

Redesign

We’re redesigning. That should be clear. Why? Because I haven’t liked the design for some time now and wanted to try and do something more with it. (If that sounds like “Because I can” then so be it....)

Right now this page is becoming. When I find something that I like, I will adapt the templates that render the rest of the site and life will go on.

Feedback is welcome via the contact us link. (Netscape 4 users: your browser is old & outdated and crashes when presented with valid Cascading Style Sheets. Therefore you get a plain text version of this site.)

Paid Keywords

According to Yahoo's search results for 'paid keywords' the #1 entry is http://tntluoma.com/fun/fwd/keywords/ which is, I'm sure, not going to make the marketing department very happy.

Also, FYI.... I've given up on trying to get a good color scheme for right now... if you are using Opera and/or Gecko you can see one of the alternate style sheets (named colorful or mild) but then if you reload the page it seems to go away.

Do not adjust your set

I'm working on redesigning the styles for this page.

Depending on when you visit, it may look somewhere between terrible and awful.

Hope to have it looking better soon.

December 17, 2002

Whew, we're back

After a bloody awful experience changing servers, the site should be back.

Sorry for the interruption... it was supposed to be a "seamless" transition.

HA! yeah right... Anyway, that's all for now... I've got to go make sure that the rest of the site is working.

Colors

Yeah, I know the colors here are really striking (and you can take that as a positive or a negative, depending on your point of view).

I like strong, bold colors. Not that I can't appreciate subtle colors, but I think every now and again you need some nice, bright, bold colors in life.

Then again, one of these days I'll probably change them all anyway. It'll probably be my first exercise in alternate style sheets.

Someday.

More to come...

Come back soon to visit this "at least weekly" (and occasionally daily) followup journal to the very popular series 30 Days to becoming an Opera Lover, which I have decided to call "Beyond 30" for lack of a better name.

New Sermon

Well I preached this morning on the text of the Good Samaritan. I will have to go back and look at the Scripture references I have preached on. Next week will mark 4 years since I arrived here.... it's time.

The title of today's sermon was Fixing our Vision. Hope you find it beneficial

Happy Birthday to you

Meet the new boss...

Well after a little over a month with GreyMatter, I've decided to go with MoveableType for the (we)blog software. The primary reason for this is that it will allow me to have more than one area set up as a blog. The advantage to that is that it is much easier to update a blog than a regular web page.

Also production has ceased (at least for now) on GreyMatter, so it seemed a good idea to use something that was still being developed so we can enjoy new features as they come along.

Enjoy, and don't forget to visit the DDOE !
