Opera phone browser could upstage rivals via C|Net

“I think it’s absolutely phenomenal technology,” said Michael Gartenberg, analyst with Jupiter Research.

Meanwhile, I still think that C|Net’s continued insistence on using the smallest possible font size has to rank them among the worst designed sites out there. They started using FONT SIZE=-1 way back when, and now they are using x-small and xx-small in their CSS.

Blech.

    Wow, that small screen rendering looks really cool. I hope it is also in the desktop Opera’s — this will be great for sidepanels and other small width windows.

    Right now I have to do my best with user CSS to strip excess width, which does not always work.

    I notice that the Opera site has pretty sleek icons.. I wonder why they put “(ill.)” into the alternate text of the images…

    I guess (ill.) stands for “illustration”, i.e., it’s not essential and blind people or people surfing with images off shouldn’t worry about missing s.th. important.
