Searching is one of the places where Opera really shines. By editing the search.ini (patience!) you can add any search engine into Opera. But Opera already comes with several built-in, including Amazon, Google (web, groups, and news).
There isn’t much to edit here, unfortunately you can’t edit the search.ini through Opera (which would be a really good addition). There is an option to change the default number of searches, but I don’t really recommend it (if you want to change Google’s, for example, I think it is a better idea to go to Google and click on the preferences link there.)
I do recommend that you check the box next to “Use inline find in page” which will tell Opera to use the search box in the addressbar for searching the current page (use ctrl + f). Tip: You can also use find-as-you-type (regardless of whether “Use inline find in page” is turned on or off) by typing . to search for all text or , to search just for link text. A small search field will pop up at the bottom left of the screen.
Do take a few moments to familiarize yourself with the included searches. The easiest way to use one of them is to press f2 and type g + Some Words Here, such as:
g opera lover
or
z traveling mercies
Those will search Google (g) and Amazon (z) respectively. Pay special attention to s and o which will help you learn about Opera.
We will talk about customizing these searches on Day 20: search.ini.
