Star Trek: Nemesis

Why was ST:Nemesis so good? Because it gave you want Star Trek fans want: Action, good plot (plausible enough to get you into the movie), some clever villans, and (most importantly) a generous helping of stuff getting blown up.

These were the same qualities that the TV series had that made it better then Deep Space Nine (“Deep Sleep Nigh”), or Voyager (“Bon Voyager, go away now”) and even Enterprise (which I keep trying to watch, but it just doesn’t engage me.

The cast of ST:TNG was a strong collection of characters, each of whom was developed well in the series. This lets the movies focus on action rather than character development, which is, after all, a lot more fun.

While I’m sad so see this generation pass (apparently this will be the last movie with the crew from The Next Generation), it’s time… Deanna’s eyes are starting to look heavy, as did Data’s (who knew androids could develop eye wrinkles?).

(By the way, can someone tell me how Janeway ever got to be an Admiral? She got her entire crew lost on their first mission? Ugh…. political correctness hits Star Trek….)

    Got them lost and then kept them [mostly] alive for seven years and brought them back halfway across the galaxy. :)

    it wasn’t that good and why is it that no other race is capable of fighting adequately except the crew of the Enterprise to the point that the enemies’s leader is a clone of Picard since we all know no one else in the universe is even remotely intelligent enough to stand toe to toe.

    Data gets killed (ever so heroicly) but the writers don’t have the balls to finnish the character so we get left with an idiot Data that sings.

    TNG storylines always abused technology to service the plot and this movie is yet another example if memory serves simply beaming the original clones imprint would have reastablished his genetic integrity to allow him a longer lifespan as they did in one of the episodes but that would ruin the whole movie wouldn’t it, why is their an enormous ventilation shaft running the length of the enterprise except to drop a bad guy down, why is it the enemy would completely disable the enterprise then stop and let her ram them, not forgetting the bad ship basically fell apart while the enterprise got a few scratches in the paint

    just a plain bad movie written to service trechies in a condescending manner far to indulgent and to be honest far to full of talk.

    3 out of 10 max and the box office gross adequately reflects it, a far cry from first contact!

    Yeah - the movie wasn’t that great. Yeah - there are plot holes. Yeah - it services trekkies mostly, but it was a story about people, about human potential when faced with racial difference, difficult opposition, overwhelming fear, i.e. - things and people we don’t understand. In the end, the whole point for Roddenberry was to focus on who humans are and how we behave. That’s what Nemesis tried to subtly tease out. It’s hard when all movie goers want is bang, bang, boom.

    It was an alright movie…but I expected more from a Star Trek film. I am also tired of ALL the Trek movies focusing on Picard and Data, while ignoring the rest of the crew.

    This was the absolute worst of all of the TNG movies, with First Contact being the best and Insurrectiong as #2. They truly butchered the series in this one.

    Throughout the series, there were always hints that Riker and Deanna will never ever be more than just friends. Sure, they once had a romance, but that time passed years ago. Now they’re suddenly getting married? Get real. Maybe Deanna and Riker’s transporter accident clone, but not her and Riker.

    Second, if anyone remembers the episode where Picard’s artificial heart fails, you’ll see why his clone is utterly unbelievable. In the movie, Picard is looking at a picture of himself from the Academy. But, in the series, Q gives him a chance to go back to his Academy days and prevent an event that would cause him to have an artificial heart. He had a full head of sandy blonde hair.

    Third, there’s a scene where Data pretends to be the “previous model” of himself, and does such a poor job of pretending, it is hard to believe that he had as much practice acting in the holodeck as he did in the series. “Move puny human”?? Lame.

    I’m certain if Gene Roddenberry was alive today (died in 1991 to heart disease, I believe), he would be appauled at the amount of butchery has been done to his vision.

    A movie for trekkies? This movie is an insult to trekkies who loved TNG.
