Just wanted to say thanks for your comments.

Works for me,so I'll just get to it and get this thing doing something. I've tried other browsers and this is the first one I think I may actually be able to use without going crazy.

You guys talk where an average person like me who's not real computer literate can still understand what you are talking about. Thanks for your time and trouble. Tom

You can also change the default browser through Control Panel if you have Windows 2000 SP4, Windows XP SP2, or later*.

Go to Control Panel, then Add or Remove Programs. Down the left side of the window there should be a series of icons. Choose Set Program Access and Defaults.

Unfortunately, Opera does not appear in this list. I assume browsers register themselves with Windows, because every Gecko-based browser on my system is listed. (I have a lot of browsers installed on my computer, mainly for testing.) With any luck, Opera will add this in the future (post Opera 9 TP2), though at least it's possible to set it through Opera's own config.

*I suspect this was actually added in Win2k SP3 and XP SP1, but I don't remember for sure.

Beware that Opera must be run with an Admin account to have the setting making it the default browser actually applied. And the same for (most of) the file types and protocols.
But as this is not a recommended practice to run with an Admin account--even with Opera--just run it once as Admin, and then revert to your regular (limited) account for everyday work.
