Comments on: The Hulk (is BAD)

I went in expecting to see something a little closer to the comicbooks but with some twist of the 70’s TV show for the general populace. What I expected and what I got were close, but absolutely nothing in regards to either version’s positive aspects. To begin I’d like to point out that I understand why the exclusion of Bruce’s working on a Gamma Bomb was deleted now that the Cold War is over and we supposibly do not any longer develope new weapons of mass destruction (riiiiiight). I was sort of expecting some Genetics or mental/emotional experimentation like in the TV show from the 70’s since it fit more into today’s realm of research that an out of date research project such as bomb creation that was the baseline for most comic characters in the sixties such as Captain Atom, Solar: Man of the Atom, Dr. Manhattan from the Watchmen, and all those other radiation based characters such as the Fantastic 4 and Spider-Man. But having Bruce’s father dabbling in genetics and then experimenting on his own child — C’mon…. Why???

This part of the movie for me was worthless and totally detracts from the scientist that Bruce is and the original thrust of the Hulk, FF, Spidey, and other non-mutant character’s in the Marvel Universe — the powers were manifications of radioactive sources that affected people in ways that were bizarre and unpredictable while also playing on the fear’s of the reader at that period of time on “normal” humanbeings. It is movies like this that make me wonder how awful of an origin Hollywoood will pull out of their director’s asses to do a re-write of the FF’s origin or Captain America’s origin — I can see it now — Captain America was first sent out to fight during WWII but was frozen solid until the year 2000 where he discovers that in the face of idealism he vows to become a card holding supporter of the Democrats and their rampant PC-police who no longer feels it is in the best interest of his country to go to war with Terrorists based on cultural differenceses and the inability to think on his own since having one’s own opinion is the “out” thing these days for the average joe? I sure hope not.

If I have anything to say about this movie it is that I felt the FX were excellent and that the Hulk was portrayed just great — but as for the rest of the movie — if you want a better attempt to satisfy the masses, go find a copy of Highlander II or that Captain America movie released in the 80s — at least there somebody attempted to stick to an original origin and stay true to a character’s history of 40+ years.

The CG was good in parts. Some of the battle sequences were OK, i liked the bit with tanks; but that was it for the entire movie. Apart from that this movie is complete shit. Acting was awfull, writing was bad. I really couldn't wait for this film to end. Complete crap.

Starts off bad, and gets progressively worse. I think the main problem with this film was all the hype that surounded it, before it came out the effects were meant to be groundbreaking and everyone would appreciate the 'stunning effects with all the romance'. Then when it came out all the critics said it was bad. I thought it couldn't be as bad as they said and they just didn't like comic book characters... i was wrong, so very wrong. this film is just shit, no other word for it. I think its fair to say it is the worst film i have ever seen (taking into account, the expectations i had for it).

better than saying dont go and see this film, go and see this film and see just how bad it really is.

As a lifelong fan of the incredible hulk, I have collected every issue of the comic book and I just bought the tv show on dvd. I have to say, this movie was the strangest chapter in my Incredible Hulk collecting experiences. I drove around the State of Missouri this summer, going to different movie theatres and meeting fans. I met all sorts of fun people. It’s always fun to bring that movie up at comic book shows with true incredible hulk fans because they pull me aside and say ‘what the hell was going on with that film?” I always respond by saying ‘Perhaps it was made by someone who lost at Dungeons and Dragons too many times and is taking it out on the world.” I don’t think it matters if the film is good or not; I still had fun seeing it.

The comment above that the movie is “based on the comic book” is actually not true. If you ever read the book, which most people who produce movies from these super characters do NOT, Banner was a scientist working on a project to create a “gamma bomb”. Think Einstein/Oppenheimer. “Nano technology” and a father experimenting on himself thus producing the Hulk in his offspring, no, didnt happen. Betty as a research assistant, no , didnt happen. The television show from the 70s also got it wrong. Sorry to rant, folks, but if youre gonna produce a movie from an established character like the Hulk (over 40 years in publication) do it RIGHT. And to those who say, “Its only a movie”, you should show some pride and respect and do it right, or dont do it at all.

In my own personal opinion and observation, those he didn't like this movie doesn't know $hit about anything what the Hulk really is.

People who say the movie suX0rs are those people who only know the Hulk from the old TV series. You people should know that that version of the Hulk was freakin' gay, or to put it simply, a castrated Hulk due to effects technology limitations.

Oh, and don't complain about the Hulk being too god-like, because if you read the comics, the "REAL" Hulk could duke it out with titans such as Thanos, the Champion(Infinity Gauntlet), Juggernaut(villain from X-men.)

[ed: I know all about what the Hulk is supposed to be, and I still thought this was a bad, bad movie. I thought the acting was bad, the writing was bad, and the screenplay was bad.]

Do not believe anyone who says this movie is good. It is so bad. It start out really weird and bad and then, by the end, its just pychotic. Ang Lee progressively went on crack throughout this movie. I’ve seen neither the tv show, nor comic, so any comparing did not go on and it still doesn’t effect my answer. This movie is BAD. Enough said!

I saw this movie twice, in the theatres and VHS. The first time I saw it it was bad, and I went with one youth and one adult. We all thought it was bad. The second time a got used to it, it seemed better but still with a hint of badness. Bad: 1. Hulk is too god-like 2. Where the heck does he get all that energy from? I mean if it was fantasy it'll work out, but it's more sci-fi than that. 3. Beginning quite boring 4. His father is too god-like

Good: 1. Animation is good 2. Battle scenes good

If ya want to watch a meaningful movie, THOU SHALL NOT WATCH THIS MOVIE. However, if you just want to watch an action movie, fast-forward like about half the length of the movie and play.

Well, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but 5 months later, our friends and I (who saw this together) are still talking about how amazingly bad it was.

I didn't find anything entertaining about it. The story dragged along. The CG effects were pretty good, the transitions from the Hulk to Bruce Banner and back again was very well done.

I am watching Hulk as I write these comments. For those that didn't like it, well that's to bad. It may not have been an oscar winning movie, but it was entertaining and well done. The effects were great and the Hulk looked as good as any CG character could be. It's as entertaining as any of the other comic book hero movies out there. If you were going into the movie expecting a movie as good as maybe the Lord of the Rings Trilogy well, you went in with the wrong expectations.

For those who haven't seen it, do see it! It was well worth the price of admission. I enjoyed it enough I went out and bought the DVD.
